Vote of No Information Confidence
|
I'd like to suggest a new phrase for buzzword stardom: "information confidence". We need it, because there's not much of it out there. A study on enterprise content management by AIIM, an association for professionals involved in electronic records management, found 52 percent of end users of these systems have at best "slight" confidence that their electronic information is accurate, accessible and trustworthy. Just 26 percent are "very" or "quite confident." (End users include IT professionals, records and document managers, and others involved in electronic document management.) |
Getting one's hands on that information is another problem. Thirty-two percent believe it would take them at least one month to find all of the relevant information regarding a customer, if required by a lawsuit.
Who's ultimately responsible for electronic records? That's a real mess. When asked to whom the staff that manages electronic records report, 25 percent said "no one has responsibility." Only 35 percent answered either the CIO or the IT department.
The AIIM "State of the Industry" study polled 930 people from around the world. The results can be downloaded here (requires registration).
