BI Indigestion?
|
Companies that are good at BI are good at delivering it in a way users can digest. But which way is that? |
In our new survey on business intelligence, we asked respondents to tell us how they deliver BI to their users, and what their favorite way of getting this data is.
It turns out that reports and ad hoc queries are the favorite delivery mechanism of most users. They're also the two most common ways IT organizations deliver BI info. But weren't dashboards, portals, scorecards and alerts supposed to deliver this info in real time, and be the most user-friendly way to digest this info? If so, why don't they score higher?
Here's the data:
How companies deliver BI information (respondents can select more than one):
Reports 83%
Ad hoc queries 63%
Dashboards 55%
Portals 43%
Forecasts 33%
Scorecards 33%
Alerts 30%

Wikis 8%
RSS feeds 3%

It seems strange that spreadsheets are not mentioned. Perhaps that was not an option in the survey although I consider it a valid choice. Spreadsheets seem to be one of the most widely used BI tool.
