Vlog: Are CIOs Degrading Their Jobs?
IT metrics guru Howard Rubin sees IT as the key lever to help companies to efficiently get through these tough economics times. But more often than not, he says, IT becomes the focal point in many companies to reduce costs. And, who's to blame? Perhaps the CIO. "CIOs—this may sound terrible—degraded their own jobs," Rubins says. "They either defend budgets or produce budgets. They usually don't talk about the value. ... They really have to get ... their companies to a state of IT savvy."
Rubin stopped by my Manhattan office, and we briefly chatted about what CIOs can and should do to get their bosses to use IT as a tool to survive the recession. Please watch this edited video of our talk. [2 min., 46 sec.]
