Strategic Vision: Enabling the Art of the Possible
|
Are CIOs doing enough to be a corporate strategist? Perhaps not, according to a survey conducted by Diamond Management and Technology Consultants. |
In a story written by my colleague Brian W. Watson, Doubts Raised About CIOs' Strategic Importance, only one third of both business and IT executives surveyed say the CIO is deeply involved in the strategic planning process.
That's disappointing, because CIOs are in the right place to be true strategic leaders within the corporations. That's because CIOs knows the potential IT brings to their companies.
"Business unit leaders know what they want to achieve, but they don't know the art of the possible," says John Carrow, who spent 10 years as CIO at Unisys and since September 2006 has been the IT services company's vice president of strategic client development. "Enhancing the vision of corporate leaders by enabling the art of the possible is what CIOs can bring to the table."
Such enablement seems pretty strategic to me.
