Online Ad Growth May Double in Four Years


Big numbers projected for online advertising and video.

US online ad spending is expected to nearly double, to $45 billion, by 2012; that would take it from the current 8.8% of total ad spending to 13.7%.

Online video ad spending is expected to double, to $2.4 billion, in two years.

The tech industry is no stranger to huge projections, but (understanding that the precise dollar figures are not the real point) these seem reasonable to me.

Going back to an old theme, a $45 billion online advertising industry would put revenues for the entire business at about thee-quarters of Dell's sales for last year.
