Microsoft's Expansive Cloud Strategy

Ballmer talks about Microsoft's cloud strategy, says a light-weight version of Office is headed to a browser near you.

That followed an announcement of a partnership with Amazon, which will run MSFT software on its EC2 service offering, and news that a small company called 3Tera will support Microsoft products in a cloud environment.

Ballmer:

By the time we finish our Professional Developers Conference this month, I think you'll have to say that there is nobody out there with as wide a range of Cloud Computing services as Microsoft, including, dare I say it, Google - which has a great search product but, at the end of the day, doesn't really have much for Enterprise email, productivity, collaboration. They are trying. They are coming to the game. But they are not really there yet.

UPDATE: WSJ tech blogger Ben Worthen rants against jargony cloud usage.
