Microsoft in the cloud

Taft: "The software giant's broad strategy to enable users to sync data and applications from all of their devices in tune with a cloud operating environment could be just the boost developers need, enabling them to write their application once and target it to multiple places." Not loving it: "Should Live Mesh succeed as a platform, Web 2.0's promise would be stunted and maybe even reversed." But he does find a snippet from the company of interest to enterprise customers: "The Live Services Platform is designed to support a federated storage model that will enable enterprise customers to host their own storage services, ensuring that their data is never stored in a Microsoft data center. More information on how federation works will be provided later in 2008." |
