International Net Traffic Grows -- But Capacity Grows Faster


Internet traffic between the United States and Latin America more than doubled in the 12 months ending in mid-2008. The 112% growth rate topped the 53% increase in overall international traffic during the same period, which was slightly more than 47% growth between major U.S. cities.

More interesting statistics from TeleGeography: growth in overall network capacity outpaced growth in traffic, "leading to lower utilization levels on many Internet backbones." The torrid growth of Latin American traffic caused utilization rates there to increase.
