Remember when IBM was the big bad establishment company against which Microsoft and Apple defined themselves?

OK, I'm old. Take my word for it.

Anyway, news that IBM is positioning itself as the liberator of the desktop from big bad MSFT gave me a twinge of nostalgia, or bizarro world nostalgia. I thought that was Google's job.

And of course Apple is now an evil empire in its own right. How long before IBM runs an ad of someone smashing a giant video screen showing a Steve Jobs presentation?

A skeptical view: PCs are cheap and worthwhile.
