Questions of control and access have always dogged software service-providers, from the days of bubble-era ASPs to the cloud vendors of today.

Phil Wainewright, responding to one man's bad experience with Google, says, "Don't trust the cloud at this early stage in its evolution."

The presenting issue involves an email account, along with IM, family photos, and storage. Imagine the problem at enterprise scale. Not pretty.

In the comments beneath Wainewright's post, much skepticism about the cloud, along with some less-panicky responses ("Google is NOT intended for enterprise use and doesn't have the support infrastructure for it. There are plenty of bullet-proof clouds from well-vetted enterprise vendors.")
