Facebook is hiring engineers -- it's a buyer's market in this economy -- but still trying to keep a lid on costs.

The social net service is growing staff more slowly than did some other fabled start-ups, but the talent binge stands out at a time when, as founder Mark Zuckerberg says, "No one else has been hiring."

My gut says bet on the guy who's hiring.
