Google, Not So Different After All
More on Google's famous "don't be evil" pledge:
My answer to the question of Google being "evil" or not is that Google's motto was a promise that it wouldn't behave like a typical big company, and that as a public company it has obligations to shareholders that make the motto moot.
Here's some evidence for the just-another-big-corporation theory: the company employs a lot of contractors, which allows it to save on benefits and escape some of the scrutiny that comes with layoffs of fulltime workers.
Not atypical for a big company -- which is the point. It's evil only my understanding of Google's definition of the word. More here.
