"You don't survive a downturn by encouraging your most experienced people to leave." Sounds simple, but it eludes a lot of business leaders.

I felt the effect of Circuit City's disastrous strategy some time ago, and then my readers explained the cause.

Certainly a lesson there for IT management -- and a case for being well-enough integrated into the executive team to make the case for retaining talent to the CFO and CEO.
