IT Employment Feeling the Recession
Looks like IT is feeling the effects of the recession.
Eric Chabrow has good analysis of the latest IT employment stats at GovInfoSecurity.com.
His deciphering of the sometimes-confusing government data reveals that IT unemployment rose slightly in the first quarter of 2009 from the final quarter of 2008, and by 0.6 percent from the same period last year.
Among the employed ranks, the number dipped a bit in the first quarter after topping 4 million in the last three months of 2008. Still, the first-quarter total topped that of the same period in 2008.
It's no big surprise that the number of jobless IT pros rose, especially given the massive cutbacks some major firms have announced. And in a time when economic uncertainty still prevails, CIOs may well face having to make more cuts.
What's your take on this quarter? Do you expect your company to make more cuts in the IT ranks?
