By Tony Kontzer So, in other words, having declared that the federal government must turn to the cloud in order to shed its wasteful IT past and adopt more cost-effective and user-friendly IT platforms--admittedly sound thinking--the nation's first CIO Vivek Kundra, at the ripe old age of 37, has managed to maneuver himself into a position where he'll be one of the notable financial beneficiaries of that strategy.

By Susan Nunziata What, exactly, is speed-of-thought? Would that be "speed-of-thought" before or after you've had your morning coffee? By Tony Kontzer Cloud computing isn't as grandiose as it sounds. It's a nebulous term used to describe a very general concept, namely the idea of tapping into a utility IT model so that a company can focus on what it makes and sells, rather than investing oodles of time and energy creating its own IT environment.

By Tony Kontzer Amid all the seemingly positive steps NetSuite took this week, there was a faint specter that the company might be ripening into an attractive acquisition target, made even more probable with the appearance of Oracle President Mark Hurd during the keynote session at the NetSuite SuiteWorld 2011 conference.

By Tony Kontzer Has there ever been a time in history when data centers have generated so much excitement? It's critical that companies get this next generation of data centers right, as they'll provide not only a critical infrastructure that will be increasingly depended upon, but also a blueprint for how to most effectively meet humanity's fast growing computing needs.
